In Plain English
An organic result is selected by a search system rather than bought as an advertisement. It may be a conventional webpage link or another unpaid search feature.
Why it matters
SEO can improve an eligible page’s chance of being discovered and understood, but it cannot buy or guarantee an organic position.
Example
A results page may show labelled advertisements followed by an unpaid link to a relevant beginner guide. That unpaid link is an organic result.
Common misunderstanding
“Organic” describes how the result was selected, not its quality. Unpaid results can still be inaccurate, and their appearance or order can change by query and context.
